How to Speed up the Moving Process Using a Heat Gun

If you are planning a move that requires the employment of movers, you should know that some moving companies will not move particular items unless they have been shrink-wrapped for security. Some movers will do it for you (ask ahead), but if you want to expedite the process, you can complete the task yourself.

Here’s how to speed up the moving process with a heat gun.

First, for this two person process, you’ll want to procure a heat gun. Second, you’ll want to find high quality shrink wrap. You can find this at your local hardware store or movers warehouse. Just be sure that you are buying shrink wrap which is made for heat, not stretch plastic wrap.

After you have acquired your products, here are some things that you’ll want to consider wrapping:

Furniture: If a piece of furniture is susceptible to scratches and dents, wrap it up. This Includes upholstered items, sofas, office chairs, and headboards. This is especially true if you are moving across country or overseas.

Awkward Items: Think items that won’t fit in a box, but aren’t necessarily susceptible to breaking or shattering. Like shelving, curtain rods, board games, any odd items that would be better off wrapped in plastic rather than taped.

Dirty Items: Like barbecue grills, tools, garage stuff, really just any outdoor items that you would rather not touch any of your indoor items.

Un-wrappable Items: We all have them: items that don’t fit neatly in a box, but wouldn’t be safe residing with the general population. Like bulky children’s’ toys, large cork board, important desk items, large kitchen pieces, box fans, and so on. Basically anything that you are unable to pack in a natural way.

So now that you have it all separated out, comes the fun part: wrapping the items. While it’s possible to do this alone, it’s better to do it as a team, and it’s really quite simple. Just wrap the plastic around that in which you want to secure, hit with the heat gun like you are putting on winter window plastic, and shrink it tight. That’s all there is to it, plus your movers will thank you.
